Stonewall - RIP
Well-mannered,  5 yr
old
German Shepherd

Rescue isn't all about warm and fuzzy feelings.  It is about facing the
tragic truth that there are millions more dogs and cats born every
year than there are homes.
It is not the shelters fault that these poor animals lose their lives--it
is the fault of greedy, selfish breeders; irresponsible, ignorant pet
owners, and an uncaring society that supports their lack of
responsibility in continuing the birth/euthanize cycle.
Many breeders will tell you, "I always find homes for my puppies".
While that may be true, many of those puppies will end up at the
shelter by the time they are a year old.  Very few people can resist a
little puppy, but equally few can deal with that puppy as it reaches
8-12 months.  Even more tragic:  for every puppy or kitten born, an
adult dog or cat loses its life.
In our self-centered, disposable society, only 1 out of 10 puppies
born will be lucky enough to have a permanent home.  Like products
on an assembly line, these puppies and kittens are produced,
"purchased", and then disposed of when they are no longer wanted.
The simple fact is:
until the demand equals the overabundance of supply,
millions of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens will be killed in
U.S.  shelters every year through no fault of their own.
Some die by lethal injection and some die by suffocation in the gas
chamber.  Many are terrified and die having NEVER known kindness
in their life.
Do not blame the shelters:  the blame belongs to irresponsible
breeders, puppy mill operators, and ignorant people who never
bother to get their pet spayed.
The heart-wrenching reality is that the innocent pay for greed and
ignorance with their very lives.
This insanity costs U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars every year to
house, kill, and dispose of the "excess" dogs and cats every year.
What is the answer?
Obviously, we cannot rely on the integrity of breeders. Many are not
bad people, they are just selfish:  selling puppies is economically
rewarding for them and most don't care about the death of animals
they have never seen.
The reality is:
those dogs and cats they have never seen do exist, feel fear, terror,
abandonment,  and then have their lives taken from them.
.  Their suffering is still real, even when not visible to most of us.
While we go about our daily lives, 16,000 dogs and cats are put to
death every day in shelters.   That is every 9 seconds......while we go
merrily about our business, oblivious to the suffering that is going
on all around us.
Have I shocked, angered, depressed, or made you outraged?
GOOD!
Because until the majority of the general public becomes aware of
this absurd, cruel, totally preventable insanity,
IT WILL NOT STOP!
Don't breed or buy while millions in shelters die.

terrified,  but very sweet. PTS

Andrew - RIP

My heart will never stop
aching for Andrew.  He was
gentle and special in every
way.  Andrew had never
known human kindness
and did not even know how
to walk on a leash.  A
wonderful volunteer and I
spent some unforgettable
time with him so that he
could enjoy blue sky and
the grass beneath his
paws. Tragically, Andrew
was killed by a spiteful,
vindictive "Humane
Society" employee, even
though he was scheduled
to start a new life at The
Poodle Preserve. Andrew
lived and died a victim of
warped human nature.  At
least he can't be hurt by
"Humans" any more.
