The four dogs
to the right
came from
Texas.  They
were part of a
transport to
help make
room for the
Katrina dogs.
All were facing
euthanasia,
and when no
other rescue
stepped
forward, The
Poodle
Preserve
gladly took
them in.
Chester was battling pneumonia  and
had to fight for his life.  He was found
to be heartworm positive, and with the
help of generous sponsors, was
successfully  treated for  heartworms,
and now shares a wonderful home
with a JRT /Beagle mix in Grand
Junction, Colorado
Dwight was extremely ill
when he arrived.  It took
weeks of nursing and 5
different antibiotics to
save his life.  Dwight
now lives with a terrific
family in Denver.
Rudolf is a poodle puppy
who was born without eyes.
He arrived defensive and
depressed.  Soon Rudolf
was jumping for joy.  He is
now in a wonderful home
with two very special
people, Dave & Gabriela.
Dallas was the
healthiest arrival from
Texas.  He quickly
learned that life is a
ball, and now is living
the good life in
Wyoming.
Luke was a
police-dog training
reject left at a
shelter. He learned
to trust people again,
and is loved in
Meeker, Colorado.
Copper was a stray with
a dislocated hip.  He
would have been
euthanized but had
surgery and is now
frolicking in Glenwood
Springs, Colorado.
8 yr old Toto was
dumped at a gas
chamber shelter after
his owner passed away.
He is now cherished in
the home of a minister
and his wife.
Ladd is a stunning Standard
Poodle who was dumped
at a shelter. The $1000 his
owners paid for him didn't stop
them from discarding him. Palm
Springs, CA is now home.
LIttlest Man's
abusive "owner"
discarded him at a
gas chamber
shelter, crate and
all, because she
couldn't handle
him. He now thrives
at The Poodle
Preserve and loves
being held!
Mork was truly
one-of-a-kind.   He
suffered terrible
abuse, yet spent his
last 2 1/2 years
cherished and loved
here.  His wonderful
sponsor, Sherri, is
shown holding him.
Doc lived his first 6
months neglected in a
backyard.  He learned
how to walk on a leash
and be a happy,
well-adjusted puppy
here and is a cherished
member of a Colorado
home.
Logan's "owners" decided
to "get rid of him".  He was
the most depressed,
colorless dog I have ever
encountered.  Here, Logan
learned how to play and be
loved .  He now sparkles
with personality and
happiness in Denver, CO.
Rosie is a
precious special
needs Chihuahua
who was
spending her life
in a crate.  Now
she runs a
household in
Nebraska.
Meeker was a
$10 puppy-mill
auction
survivor. He
learned to trust
people and to
play!  Meeker is
spoiled-rotten in
Colorado
Springs.
Chewie was languishing for  years at a "no-kill" shelter.
The staff meant well, but Chewie spent his days in
boredom, and longing for human companionship. He lived
outside with adequate shelter, but no stimulation.  The
photo on the left is Chewie at the no-kill shelter; on the right
is Chewie at The Poodle Preserve. No-kill shelters are not
the solution to the problem of pet overpopulation:   Building
thousands of facilities every year to house the
approximately 5 million homeless dogs and cats, and then
warehousing them for life is not the answer.  The answer is
preventing millions of homeless pets by spaying and
neutering until the demand equals the supply.  Until then,
the insane assembly lines of "producing litters" and "killing
'excess' dogs and cats  will continue.
Gunther is a poodle puppy from
Las Cruces.  Believe it or not,
this is the same dog.  He had
obviously never been groomed
until he came to The Poodle
Preserve. Now,  Gunther lives in
Santa Fe, and participates in
agility and is always
well-groomed!
Benji has
pannus, an eye
disease that
causes
blindness.  He
came to life at
The Poodle
Preserve, and
now lives with
enthusiasm in
Colorado Springs.
Foxy came from Las
Cruces after  she was
thrown out the
window of a moving
truck.  She has a
permanent limp, but
nothing diminishes
her bubbly
personality. Foxy
thrives in a Denver
home.
Cutie Pie was saved
from a New Mexico
gas chamber.  She
had a dislocated hip,
but healed with
physical therapy.
She is loved in
Denver.
